Project Experience

Lincoln Smith has over 14 years experience as an ecologist specialising in landscape and floristic ecology. He has also fulfilled a role as an Environmental Advisor and is a qualified Fauna Spotter Catcher.

Linc has been a team leader for a large environmental consultancy and worked as a freelance ecologist for numerous environmental companies as the lead and support ecologist level for site assessments throughout Queensland including Bio-condition surveys, tree plots, Regional Ecosystem verification and mapping, fauna and flora species lists, protected plant searches, habitat value assessments, active searches for threatened flora and fauna, Property Maps of Assessable Vegetation (PMAV’s), wetland and watercourse assessments, marine plant mapping and weed mapping.

The following is a snapshot of work history:

  • Providing environmental compliance advisory and leading pre-clearance surveys across five bioregions for a 1200km linear infrastructure project (CopperString 2.0) within northern Queensland,
  • Bio-condition and habitat quality assessment of impact and offset sites throughout Queensland for MNES and MSES matters,
  • Property Maps of Assessable Vegetation (PMAV’s) for multiple large-scale cattle properties throughout northern, western, and central Queensland; and acting on behalf of property owners in dealings with DNRME,
  • Ecology services and team supervision of the detailed Carmichael Rail Project geotechnical investigation program including the coordination of vegetation clearing and access track construction with multiple Cultural Heritage groups across the alignment,
  • Vegetation mapping, baseline and monitoring surveys, for gas, mining, renewable energy (windfarms) and rail projects including Bowen Rail Corporation commissioning yard expansion near Abbott Point.
  • Lead protected plant surveys within the South-east Queensland and Brigalow belt bioregions.
  • Tree plots, weed surveys, fauna surveys and site assessments for property development environmental assessment reports.
  • Planning, desktop assessments, field data analysis and interpretation, reporting for numerous ecological field surveys.
  • Ongoing weed surveys, dust monitoring, fauna surveys, bio-condition assessments water quality monitoring and watercourse assessments for Adani’s Carmichael Rail Network.
  • Ongoing gas measuring of the Condamine River gas seeps for Origin energy.
  • Establishment and monitoring of vegetation offset sites to determine the habitat quality of sites under the Queensland Environmental Offsets framework in Central Queensland for Stanmore Coal.
  • Vegetation monitoring of Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDE) on Bribie Island for SEQ Water.
  • Marine plant mapping, tree plots, flora and fauna assessments for development applications in multiple locations throughout South East Queensland..
  • PMAV’s and ecological assessments for property management plans at large scale agriculture properties within the Brigalow Belt, Mulga Lands, Desert Uplands, Central Queensland Coast and Wet Tropics bioregions.
  • Pre-clearance surveys, environmental compliance advisory, and dust monitoring plot establishment for the Carmichael Rail Network.
  • Ecological assessments within a range of vegetation types for development applications throughout the Southeast Queensland bioregion.
  • Ground-truthing ecological values including threatened flora and fauna species, Category B Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs) and Threatened Ecological Communities (TECs) at Saraji mine and Blackwater mine.
  • Fauna surveys targeting Denisonia maculata (Ornamental snake) for BMA at Saraji South mine.
  • Fauna spotter catcher services for drilling at Lake Broadwater, Dalby for Arrow Energy’s gas seep assessments.
